Overview

The Theory of Language is a collegite level introduction to linguistics. The CD-ROM offers multiple levels of presentation, allowing each user a unique learning experience.

Main

This level offers a standard introduction to core linguistics topics while periodicly engaging the student in interactive experiments, presenting movies of notible linguists (Noam Chomsky, Lyn Frazier, Ivan Sag, and Tom Roper among them), and posing thought provoking questions.

In Detail

This level considers the topics presented in the other levels both in greater detail and more technical terms. This material is appropriate for an advanced/motivated student wishing to consider the most up-to-date discussions in the field of linguistics.

History

This level offers historical background, following the progression of core topics from early theories, models, and methods through to modern conceptualizations. The History level provides a unique look back on the evolution of the field.

Pro

This level presents arguements on one side of controversial topics (the other side is presented in the "con" level.) The presentation assumes that the "pro" position is the only logicaly supportable position.

Con

This level presents arguements on one side of controversial topics (the other side is presented in the "pro" level.) The presentation assumes that the "con" position is the only logicaly supportable position.
